Heat Logs
Shop our range of heat logs designed specifically for burning in chimeneas, BBQs, fire pits, and wood burners. Made from waste wood, they provide greater heat for a longer period than many traditional logs, making them excellent value for money. We can deliver them for free across Oxfordshire in a range of briquette sizes and styles.
What are heat logs?
Heat logs, also known as briquettes, are a solid fuel made from wood by-products. These can be sawdust, shavings, straw or even paper. Our heat logs, for example, are made from waste sawdust from our timber mill in Ghana. A high-power kiln compresses the sawdust by-product into uniform briquettes. The logs are fused naturally with the resin from the sawdust, also known as lignin. This means no extra, non-natural materials are used and this is why heat logs are considered environmentally friendly.
How long do heat logs burn for?
Depending on the type of heat log and the nature of the fire, heat logs can burn for up to 2 hours. Due to the nature of how they’re put together heat logs are dense so store quite a lot of energy and burn to a high heat. Heat logs are also dry, meaning they’re easy to light and don’t produce a lot of smoke.
How to use heat logs
You can use heat logs in the same way you would regular firewood. Start building your fire with newspapers and firelighters. From here add a few sticks of kindling and stack your heat logs on top.
We recommend stacking your kindling in a 2x2 structure with the heat log placed on top. From there, light the firelighter, and allow the fire to catch. Keep an eye on the fire and add new logs when you see the fire dying. You can pair heat logs with a more robust, hardwood log such as birch/oak, for even longer heating.
Are heat logs better than regular logs?
Heat logs are different from regular logs, but neither better nor worse. Heat logs are produced using waste products. This makes them cheaper and more environmentally friendly than traditional logs. They are also easy to place in the fire, due to their uniform size and won’t spit or smoke when burning.
Traditional logs excel at providing a great smell and atmosphere to any fire. They may smoke, spit and crackle, more than a heat log, but sometimes that’s what you want! Further, denser, more robust wood such as oak can contain more energy and burn for longer than a heat log.
Do you need kindling with heat logs?
In theory, no. Heat logs are super dry (ours are under 9% moisture content), meaning they should light relatively easily. The advantage of kindling is the lighter, less dense wood allows the fire to catch more quickly. So if you’re at home, why make lighting the fire more challenging than it needs to be? Add a few sticks of kindling.
What kind of fires can you use heat logs in?
Heat logs can be used in any fire where traditional logs would be used. Due to their small, uniform size, heat logs excel at fires in confined spaces, such as smaller stoves or chimineas.
